1971 Scotty Serro Hilander
What we wanted: My wife and I wanted a small camper to take the kids camping in. We started looking at Shasta's and Scotty's. They were all either junk or out of our price range.
What we found: After some searching, we found this 1971 Scotty Serro Hilander about 30 mins from our house. It was priced in our budget and looked in pretty good shape.
What we really found: What we really bought was a really nasty, rotten and gross camper. We knew it had some soft spots in the corners and would need some repair, but we didn't plan to have to take it this far!!! After tearing down some panels, we found complete wall sections rotten away. We found some ceiling supports either rotten or missing. We started tearing more and more of it out and found that we basically had bought a camper frame and a bunch of templetes for the new wood.
Progress: It took about 2 weeks to completely tear down to the metal frame. After about $4000 and 2-3 straight months of "night after night" work and a couple "all weekend" work, we were able to get alot of it completed, but as winter set it, it had to be put on hold till Spring.
